Marian Stella Sprank

Marian S. Sprank, age 65 of Stanton, passed away October 17, 2012 at the Laurels of Carson City.

Marian was born May 10, 1947 to William and Elda Mae (Duel) Jeffrey in Greenville, Michigan. She married Terry Sprank May 26, 1973 in Fenwick, Michigan.

Marian worked as a press operator at Chrysler for 30 years, retiring in 1997. Marian was a life member through her father in the Sheridan VFW. She was also a member of the Stanton American Legion Auxiliary and the Port Huron Moose Lodge. She was a real people person who loved her family, as well as her dog and cat. She also enjoyed going for pontoon rides on Nevins Lake and loved to crochet. 

Marian is survived by her husband of 39 years, Terry; daughter, Tina (Doug) Hengesbach of Pewamo; son Peter Sprank of Greenville; grandchildren Blake, Millicent, and Emily Hengesbach; brother, Mel (Linda) Jeffrey; nieces and nephews John (Suzanne) Jeffrey, Kim Hamacher, Mike (Jessica) Jeffrey, Mel (Tina) Jeffrey; several great nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law Gary (Kathy) Sprank, Larry Sprank, and Wendell (Evelyn) Sprank. 

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Elda; and her mother and father-in-law Harold and Maxine Sprank.

Services for Marian will be 2pm, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Barden Funeral Home in Stanton with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday, October 19, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia Ann Humphrey

Patricia Ann Humphrey, age 50, of Ithaca, died Monday, October 15, 2012, at her home in rural Ithaca.

Patricia was born in Alma on November 14, 1961, the daughter of Dorsey and Olga (Karowitcz) Humphrey.  She worked in food service at Gratiot community Hospital.  She enjoyed being outdoors and going fishing and traveling up north, horseback riding, her animals, and especially her cat. As an avid reader she would read romance novels and sci-fi.  She also enjoyed watching sci-fi and scary movies on tv.  She especially loved playing with her granddaughters.

Patricia is survived by her daughter, Ashley Noack of Ithaca; her granddaughters, Lillian Fowler and Isabella Fowler; her mother, Olga (Bob) Schlarf, of Ithaca; her father, Dorsey (Leone) Humphrey of St. Louis; her sister, Johanna Humphrey of Ithaca; her brother, Scott (Mary) Humphrey of Breckenridge; and her nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 19, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Willie Iwankiw officiating.  Interment will be in Beechler Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Arthur John Maki

Arthur J. Maki, age 85, of Ithaca, died Tuesday, October 16, at his home in rural Ithaca.

Arthur was born August 13, 1927, in Detroit the son of Alexander and Hilda Maki.  He worked for Quaker Chemical in Detroit for 38 years, retiring in 1988, at which time he moved north to Ithaca,  He loved the outdoors and spending time deer hunting.  He was an avid race fan and in the 1950’s raced stock cars at Motor City Raceway.  For 25 years he enjoyed going down to the Daytona 500. During WWII he served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard a sub chaser.

Arthur is survived by his children, Robert (Catherine) Maki of Leonard, Deborah Hunn of Ithaca, and John (Mary) Maki of Clinton Twp; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and his niece, Nancy (Ray) Sadler of Holly.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean (Frank) Medved of Ithaca, and his brother, Arnie Maki.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Dave Perry officiating.  Interment will be in Hamilton Cemetery.  Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Richard Lee Herron

Richard L. Herron, age 83, of New Port Richey, Fl., died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, September 30, 2012, in Lakeland, Florida.

Richard was born October 21, 1928, in Emerson Township, Ithaca, Michigan, the son of Leo S. and Pearl (Sanders) Herron.  He graduated from high school in Ionia and began working for GM, from which he later retired.  During the early 1960's he was part owner of the Rainbow Lanes bowling alley.  Following his retirement Richard moved to the Turks and Caicos islands where he managed a beach front resort for several years.  

Richard thoroughly enjoyed life.  He loved bowling and golf, and watching all sports on tv.  He loved to drive his sports cars, of which he owned several. 

Richard is survived by his sons, Robert (Joans) Herron of Groveland, CA, and Dennis (Laurie) Herron of Lakeland, FL; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his nieces, Cathy and Pearl; his nephews, Bill and Tim; and his best friend, Kipper, his yorkie. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers and sisters, Kenneth, Stuart, Maxine, and Barbara.

Funeral services will be graveside in Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, MI., at 1 p.m. Monday, October 8, with Pastor Cindi Greene officiating.  The family is being served by the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, Michigan.

Ellen Louise Hungerford

Ellen was born September 29, 1941 in Ithaca, the daughter of Alice Riggs.  She graduated from Ithaca High School in 1959, and married Lloyd Ray Hungerford on April 9, 1960.  Together they have four children, Laura (Dan) Grimes of Texas, Lisa (Justin) Coffee of Wolverine, Bill (De) Hungerford of Vestaburg, and Mary (Scott) Humphrey of Breckenridge; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Riggs.

Ellen was an avid reader.  She loved her animals, Kitty, Chance, and Alex.  She enjoyed dancing, movies, and spending time with her family.  

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 27, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor George Showers officiating.
