Daniel Addison Reinsmith

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Addison Reinsmith, who passed away April 28, 2025 at the age of 73.

Daniel was a beloved husband of Brenda O’Boyle Reinsmith and a devoted father, grandfathers, and great grandfather.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Brenda; children Aaron and Jane Reinsmith, and Thomas Reinsmith; grandchildren Jessica and Mike Brown, Julius Widman and Carley Fuentes, Kyle and Katie Humphrey; great grandchildren Cole Michael, Zoey Ann and Madison Jane Brown, and Brady James and Ellie Joy Humphrey.

We will forever cherish the memories of Daniel Addison Reinsmith.

Tomasita Rodriguez

Tomasita Rodriguez passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2025, with her family by her side. 

Tomasita was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Vicente and Priscilla Garcia. She married the love of her life on October 8, 1957. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother to five children, though one passed away at a young age, leaving her with four. She was an amazing grandmother and great-grandmother and had many nephews and nieces, as well as friends from all over. Among her many friends, Judy was her closest companion for many years.

Tomasita moved to Michigan with her family at a young age. She began her journey as a housewife and later babysat a young girl named Darlene. After that, she worked at the Wolverine Shoe Factory until it closed. Following that, she returned to school to earn her high school diploma. She then pursued a career in nursing and obtained her CNA license. Tomasita worked in various nursing homes until she joined the Alma-Gratiot County Hospital, where she retired at age 65.

Tomasita loved spending time with her family, teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to sew, cook, knit, make flour tortillas, care for plants, and be present for them. She enjoyed knitting, solving puzzles, reading her Bible, and making food for her loved ones. Her flowers and plants brought her joy. Tomasita also loved watching old western shows and wrestling with her husband, a passion she continued after he passed away. 

Her children survive her:

- Joseph Lee Rodriguez of Alma, Michigan

- Ricky (Christine) Rodriguez of Wildwood, Florida

- Sylvia (Paulino) Perdomo of St. Louis, Michigan

- Anjelica (Matthew) Bradley of Riverdale, Michigan

Twelve grandchildren and Twenty-five great-grandchildren also survive Tomasita.

Funeral services for Tomasita will be 3pm Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Eddie McDaid III and Thomas Collins will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10am until noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery in Alma.

Victor Claude McGill

December 7, 1946 - March 26, 2025 

Sumner, MI

Victor Claude McGill, a devoted husband, father, and lifelong resident of Sumner, MI, passed away on March 26, 2025, at the age of 78. 

Born on December 7, 1946, Vic lived a life filled with hard work, dedication, and a strong sense of pride. As a hard-working owner of a trucking company, he spent many years building a successful business, earning a reputation for his reliability and strong work ethic. Vic earned the respect of his employers, coworkers, fellow truck drivers, and the community through his tireless work and commitment to excellence.

Vic's love for the outdoors was evident in his beautifully maintained lawn and the gardens he lovingly tended to with his wife, Connie. Together, they created a beautiful home that they enjoyed endlessly, filling it with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Vic was known for his passion for cutting firewood, and his motto was simple: the bigger the load, the better. He took great pride in loading his truck to capacity and beyond.

But above all, Vic was a dedicated and proud family man. He loved his wife, Connie, and their family with all his heart, and he took great pride in their accomplishments. His humble nature and kind spirit earned him the respect and admiration of everyone who knew him. 

Throughout his life, Vic always strived to be the best at whatever job was at hand. He had a quiet, respectful competitiveness about him, which is evident in his many success stories and the respect of those who knew him.

Vic is survived by his son, Jerry McGill of Sumner, MI; his daughter, Ronda McGill of Sumner, MI; grandchildren: Patrick and Kimberly Rossman, Nick and Lisa Carter, Jake and Ashley McGill, Alex and Alyssa Wanless, Jamie Babosh, Brody and Jenna Babosh, and Elliette Russell; great-grandchildren: Weston, Tripp, Clayton, Victor, Georgia, Colton, Jessica, Julia, Lauralei, Waylon, and Emerson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Connie McGill; his parents, Claude and Laverne McGill; brothers, Gale McGill and Marvin McGill; and great-grandson, Trent Ryan Carter.

A celebration of Vic's life will take place at a later date 

Burial will take place at Sumner Cemetery, Sumner, MI, in a private service for family.

Memorials may be made to the Sumner Center Church of the Nazarene.

Larry Darwin Porter

Larry Darwin Porter, age 83; of Ithaca and Greenville, Michigan ran

into the arms of his savior, Jesus, on Friday, February 21,2025 at Vista

Springs Timber Ridge, East Lansing. He was born at home in Lafayette

Township, Gratiot County, Michigan on January 26, 1942, the son of

Clifford E. and Ruth C. (Howd) Porter. He lived most of his life on the

family farm in Hamilton Township.

Larry was a cheerful and generous man who worked very hard with

farming with his brother, Ed. He found people who needed help and he

was ready to give to them.

They worked together for most of their lives farming. Larry worked at

times at Federal Mogul in St. Johns. Farming was his life. He and Ed

were both mechanically adept with all of the faming machinery and

often created their own solutions. They fabricated stainless steel

fertilizer spouts to sell.

Larry was in the National Guard from 1963 to 1969. In July 1967 he

and other men from the Alma National Guard unit served in Detroit

during the Detroit riots.

Larry enjoyed traveling in the winter time with family. His first time

traveling was going to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for the National

Guard. He also traveled to North Carolina, Kentucky, Florida, Illinois,

Indiana, Missouri, Louisiana, Virginia and Hawaii.

In 2014 he enjoyed his first cruise to the Bahamas. Later he cruised to

Honduras, Belize, Mexico and Grand Cayman. Another cruise to the

Bahamas was his last cruise in 2022. He was always amazed at all of

the beautiful countries. He always found someone to talk to

everywhere he was.

He attended elementary school at Sickles, Michigan. He attended

high school in Ithaca, Michigan until he was 16 years old on his

birthday. He was responsible for farming with his brother when their

father was disabled. Later he earned his high school GED.

He met his perfect sweetheart and married Charlotte Fidler on

March 19, 1977 at Edgewood Church of God, Ithaca. They were

married for 47 years. He served on the Board of Trustees at the church

and volunteered for several projects, including manufacturing a safety

barrier for the hall balcony. They moved to Greenville, Michigan in 2019 to be closer to family.

Larry enjoyed visiting his relatives and talking to everyone about his life.

He spread the word of God whenever he could with kindness.

He cherished his wife, sons, daughter-in-law and grandson. Being with

his grandson was a joy, as well as all of his family. He gave his family

everything they needed. He planned to prepare for the future.

Larry is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Fidler) Porter, his sons,

Jonathan, Jason (Michelle) and grandson, James, his niece, Susan

(Fidler) Aaron Athearn, other nieces and nephew, cousins and many

friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.

There will be a celebration of life at 11 am on June 21, 2025 at Edgewood

Church of God, Ithaca. A dinner will follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 am until the time of the service.

A cremation was done. His remains will be in Hamilton Township

Cemetery.

Thomas Dale Nester

Thomas Dale Nester, 93, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center, St. Louis, Michigan. He was born July 26, 1931, in Flint, Michigan. He was the oldest son of Thomas I. Nester and Verna Fent. He graduated from Detroit Southeastern H.S. and proudly served his country from 1950-1954 in the U.S Air Force. He met his wife, Sally A. Burk, at Great Lakes Training Base in Chicago, Illinois. They were married on September 20, 1951, in Wausau Wisconsin. They were stationed in Tampa, Florida, at MacDill Air Force Base where he continued his training as a Dental Lab Technician. Following his honorable discharge, they moved to Michigan where he started his own dental lab with his brother, Don. He eventually became the sole owner of Morang Dental Lab. He finished his dental career working for Redwood Dental Group in Warren, MI, where Tom and Sally raised their family. In 1997, they retired to live at Canadian Lakes. In 2016, they moved to Ithaca to live next to their son, Dale, and his wife, Marion.

Tom enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, bowling, and playing cards with family and friends. He really loved playing Cribbage. He and Sally loved to travel including trips to England, Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, several of the 50 States, and wintered many years in Harlingen, Texas. Tom was a member of a church no matter where he resided, finishing as an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca. He loved all sports, especially baseball and the Detroit Tigers. He had an excellent memory and often told the story of skipping school to see the World Series in 1945, between the Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals. Tom loved being with family and following all their pursuits. He championed the causes of the disadvantaged and was rooted for the underdog. In retirement, he went on dental mission trips to Honduras to make immediate partial dental plates for people who could not afford them. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Sally (12/2022), and his brothers Don, David and Dennis and their spouses. He is survived by their three children: Dr. Dale Nester/Marion (Ithaca), Jill Barrett (Cumming, Georgia), and Ron Nester/Jill (Berkley, Ml), their six grandchildren (and spouses) and nine great grandchildren, all to carry on their legacy of love, responsible living, having fun and a living a life filled with laughter.

His "Celebration of Life" service is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca. 218 East Newark St. Ithaca, MI 48847. Gathering begins at 11:30 AM, service at 12:30 PM, with a lunch to follow. His remains will be interred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Funeral arrangements are with Barden Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Ithaca Community Food Pantry, the Memorial Fund of the Ithaca Presbyterian Church, Heartland Hospice, or Veteran Affairs.
