Arthur J. Maki, age 85, of Ithaca, died Tuesday, October 16, at his home in rural Ithaca.

Arthur was born August 13, 1927, in Detroit the son of Alexander and Hilda Maki.  He worked for Quaker Chemical in Detroit for 38 years, retiring in 1988, at which time he moved north to Ithaca,  He loved the outdoors and spending time deer hunting.  He was an avid race fan and in the 1950’s raced stock cars at Motor City Raceway.  For 25 years he enjoyed going down to the Daytona 500. During WWII he served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard a sub chaser.

Arthur is survived by his children, Robert (Catherine) Maki of Leonard, Deborah Hunn of Ithaca, and John (Mary) Maki of Clinton Twp; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and his niece, Nancy (Ray) Sadler of Holly.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean (Frank) Medved of Ithaca, and his brother, Arnie Maki.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Dave Perry officiating.  Interment will be in Hamilton Cemetery.  Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.
