Annie A. Denman

Annie A. Denman, age 87, of rural Ithaca, died Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Mid-Michigan Hospital in Alma.

Anna was born April 12, 1925, in Rosebush, the daughter of George O. and Velma (Holmes) Gyurnek.  She married Carl F. Denman, Sr. on August 11, 1946.  He preceded her in death on February 2, 1988.

Anna was a loving wife mother, and grandmother.  She spent her time doing handwork and crafts which she would take to flea markets and craft shows.  She loved animals and would take in all stray cats and dogs as well as feeding and watching the birds.

Anna is survived by her children, Roy (Jean) Denman of Vestaburg, Patty (Guy) Roberts of Starke, Fl., Dianna (Thomas) Crean of Alma, Michael Denman (Sheila Wadsworth) of Lansing, Peggy Denman of Ithaca, and Bonnie (Daniel) Morden of Shepherd; 44 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; 32 great great grandchildren; and her brother, Thomas (Frances) Gyurnek of Sumner.  She was preceded in death by her son, Carl Denman, Jr; and her brothers and sisters, Mary, Rose, George, Louis, and Joseph.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Bob Norris officiating.  Interment will follow in Emerson Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, at the funeral home.

Nancy (Barden, Bowen) Patterson

Nancy Patterson 80, of Ithaca, passed away on Wednesday, September 19th surrounded by her family in Ithaca.  Nancy was born April 11, 1932 in Ithaca to C. Donald and Helen (Russell) Barden.  She married Forrest M Bowen in 1950 they had five children and divorced in 1966. She then married Charles O Patterson in January 2010.

Nancy drove school bus for Ithaca Public Schools for a time then was a dispatcher for the Gratiot County Sheriff Department and worked in the License Bureau for many years.  She also worked for Central Michigan University Public Safety, retiring in 1997.

Nancy was a life member of Ithaca United Methodist Church, which was founded by her great grandmother Russell, by having ice cream socials at her home.  Nancy was an excellent organist and pianist.  She played for the Ithaca Methodist and Presbyterian Churches and numerous weddings and funerals.  She accompanied the choirs at both churches and directed the Bell Choir.  She also accompanied the Ithaca High School Choir, Madrigal, Glee Club and many local musicians all of her life. 

Nancy was a member of the DAR, and The Sweet Adeline’s.  She was an avid reader and book collector.  She and her sister Phyllis loved quilting, making one for each of the grandchildren.  She loved camping at School Section Lake, and all over the state. She loved playing cribbage, mahjong, and all manner of board games with family.

Nancy is survived by her husband Charles.  Her sister in law Lois Barden, her children:  Michael (Beth) Bowen and 14 grandchildren of Snohomish, WA, David (Bonnie) Bowen and 2 grandchildren of Ithaca, Kevin (Mary) Bowen and 1 grandchild of Ithaca, Dan (Lynn) Bowen of Brighton, MI and Sue (Chuck) Harteg and 3 grandchildren of Whitmore Lake, MI.  She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, her sisters: Laura Jean Barden, Phyllis (Robert) Whaley, and Jacqueline (Lyle) Heath, her brothers: Joseph, Charles, and John Barden. 

There will be a celebration of her life on September 29th 2012, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca at 1:PM with Pastor Steve Young officiating, with a luncheon following at the Ithaca Community Center. 

Memorials may be made to Sparrow Home Hospice, the Seventh Day Adventist Community Center, or to the Ithaca Food Pantry.

Genevieve Mae Linder

Genevieve Mae Linder, 83, of Sheridan passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012, in the Laurels of Carson City surrounded by her family.

Genevieve was born September 10, 1929 to Ray and Mary (Denman) Patterson in the rural area of Stanton. She was raised in Crystal Township area and married Wayne E. Linder on April 28, 1950. They moved their family to the farm on the corner of Holland Lake and Vickeryville Roads where they raised six children. In 1989 they sold the farm and moved into the village of Sheridan where Genevieve resided after Wayne’s death. Genevieve worked for Bud Perkins potato farm and was a retiree of Ore Ida of Greenville.

Genevieve is survived by her children Michael Linder of Florida, Sandra and Paul Hansen of Stanton, David and Marie Linder of Sheridan, Susan and Kevin Cody of Ionia and Scott and Amy Linder of Sheridan; grandchildren Robert and Steven Linder of Florida, Melissa and David Mercer of Stanton, Stacy and James Goodell of Sheridan, Christopher and Meredith Linder of McBride, Gabriel and Sara Linder of Sheridan, Jeffrey and Michelle Cody of Ionia and Jennifer and Nathan Henry of Texas. Genevieve was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren; Carson, Jenna, Kassandra, Tabby, Shelby, Stephanie, Mallory, Tyson, Addison, Marissa, Juan Diego, Hayden and Cason.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, her parents, son Edwin Linder and husband Wayne.

Genevieve’s family will greet friends on Wednesday, September 19th from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Barden Funeral Home, Stanton. A Memorial Service honoring her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Barden Funeral Home, with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Spectrum Health United Memorial Foundation or the Laurels of Carson City. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Patricia Jo Braman

Patricia Jo Braman, age 57, of Ithaca, died Thursday, September 13, 2012, at her home in North Star Township.

Patti was born February 17, 1955, in Carson City, the daughter of George and Margaret Jean (Shunk) Zamarron.  She married Kipp Braman in Ithaca on September 1, 1973.

Patti loved her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a lover of animals, especially horses, and took her children to shows all over the states when they were small.  She was a great cook and also loved to sew.  She was a hard worker who enjoyed people and involved herself with her community serving in 4-H, the Pompeii United Methodist Church and as a member of the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Posse.

Patti is survived by her husband, Kipp; her father, George Zamarron, of Ithaca; her children, Josh Braman of Lansing, Jenifer (Steven) Taylor of Olivet, and Jacob (Lacie) Braman of Ithaca; four grandchildren, Samantha Taylor and Kylea, Karley, and Khloe Braman; her brothers and sisters, Debra Berry of Birch Run, Randy (Judy) Zamarron of Ithaca, Robert (Shelley) Zamarron of Ithaca, Rebecca Showalter of Midland, Cindra (Kyle) Nash of Beaverton, Rodney (Robin) Zamarron of Jennison, and Richard Zamarron of Utah; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 16, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Ried Martin and Pastor Bill Bye officiating.  Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Barden Funeral Home.  Memorial Contribtions may be made to the Gratiot County Fair for Youth, Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund of Gratiot or to the  Pompeii United Methodist Church.

Bernadine A. (Kapalczynski) Disbrow

Bernadine A. Disbrow, age 94, of Stanton, passed away Monday, September 10, 2012 in Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Bernadine was born February 9, 1918 to Stanley and Isabelle (Wittlief) Kapalczynski in Manistee, Michigan. She was married to Ralph Disbrow, on July 3, 1937, in Grand Ledge.

Bernadine enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, and feeding and watching birds. She loved animals, especially her dogs. She was a great cook and loved her family.

Bernadine is survived by her son, Rodger Disbrow of Stanton; grandchildren Sherry Disbrow of Stanton, Roger F. (Shawn) Disbrow of Texas, Kimberly Disbrow of Florida; great grandchildren Brandon, Adrienne, Jessica; her sister Dorothy Plucinski; and brother Thomas Kapalczynski. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; sons James and Bobby Disbrow; great grandson James Disbrow, and one brother and sister.

Visitation for Bernadine will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Barden Funeral Home in Stanton. A graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Montcalm Animal Shelter or the Arthritis Foundation of Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
