Laura R. Allen

Laura R. Allen, age 91, of Ithaca, passed away November 16, 2021 at Schnepp’s Senior Care Center in St Louis.  Visitation will be at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca on  Friday November 19 from 1:00 to 3:00 with funeral immediately following.  Pastors Dave Jewell & Cheryl Davis will officiate.  Burial will be at Salt River Cemetery in Shepherd.

Laura was born in St Louis on December 5, 1929.  She is the daughter of Fredrick and Mable (Peppers) Jones.  She married Cecil Allen on June 21, 1946.  He preceded her in death on June 6, 1992.

Laura almost always went to jobs with Cecil when he worked on the pipeline.  From the bitter cold in Canada, to South Carolina, to California and many places in between.  Around 1961 Cecil decided to start his own business and Laura was a big part of that.  Answering phone calls, taking orders for sand and gravel and other work.  She also took care of the billing and bookwork.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting and spending time with the grandkids.  There are several of her afghans and baby blankets around the family that she made with love for those who received them.  She was a member of the Free Methodist church in St Louis.  She is survived by her sons, Wayne of Ithaca and Mike (Sue) of Ithaca.  Grandchildren Josh, Aleasa, Morgan and Mariah, Jennifer (Jonathan), Brian (Renee), Gregory (Jordynn), Dann, Chelsea and Shelby (Trevor).  Also, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  Sister Ruth Meyers, sister in law Doris Jones, brother in law Maynard Allen (Mary Ann), and sister in laws, Marilyn Allen and Rebecca Allen.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, Charles, Henry and Lyle (Renata), sister Isadora (Jerry) Daymon and an infant brother and sister.  Also,  brother in laws, Duane (Frances), Denzil and Romaine Allen.

Memorial contributions are requested, in lieu of flowers, to Gratiot County Commission on Aging.

The family is being served by the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.bardenfuneralhome.com.
