Gregory Clarke Hatch

Gregory Clarke Hatch died peacefully in his home, surrounded by friends and family on September 8th, 2018.

Greg was born Aug 10, 1955 in Bay City, MI, to Vera and Lysander (Jim) Hatch. His father, a jazz musician, bought Greg his first drum kit at the age of 6, and so began his love for music.

In the early 1980’s, Greg met his soul mate Sheryl Becker. Sheryl loved her muscle cars and getting down and dirty fixing them, while Greg loved fashion and art. Ultimately, it was their passion for music that brought them together. Sheryl soon became his loyal roadie, helping him load and unload his drums and becoming his biggest fan in the process. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage and had three beautiful daughters together.

Greg was an advocate for supporting a community of local musicians. He bought The Sound Depot in November 1990, which became a destination in downtown Alma. He was dedicated to creating an environment where all walks of life could come in and experience all that music had to offer. He spent time with his customers and loved introducing them to different artists and genres, and has been described as a true music connoisseur. Shortly after acquiring the Sound Depot, Greg and Sheryl created Class Act DJ Service, a husband and wife duo who provided a unique and personalized approach to every special event.  Throughout the years, Greg spent his time managing bands, throwing epic birthday parties, offering free drum lessons, and mentoring many. Greg touched countless lives and forged relationships that would last a lifetime.

Greg is survived by his wife, Sheryl; their three daughters, Amber (Ashton) Shaw, Ashley (Johan) King, Allison (Adam Armola) Hatch, and their 7 grandchildren; Nadianna, Jase, Amaya, Adam Jr., Jayla, Jaxson and Parker, and also his mother in-law Gwen Becker. Throughout their lives, Greg and Sheryl welcomed many additional “family” members into their home and hearts. Greg’s parents Vera and Lysander Hatch and father in-law Gene Becker preceded him in death.

Sheryl- My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to you and beautiful family you and Greg created. While our paths have not crossed in recent years, I have never forgotten the epic weekends, great road adventures, and impossible-to-count acts of kindness shown to me at the Hatch house. Greg Hatch was the definition of the word awesome. I think about him more than I even realize. His daughters are all awesome, following in his memory, and Mrs. Hatch is even more awesome. This may seem generic, but it's not because I literally mean everything I say.
