Robert William Peet

Robert W. Peet, age 62, of Ithaca died Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland after a lengthy illness.

Bob was born January 10, 1953 to Joyce (Peet) Carpenter in Ithaca. He was a lifelong resident of Ithaca. Bob graduated from Ithaca High School in the Class of 1971 and went on to college at LCC, SVSU, and CMU.  He married Ronda Kindel on November 18, (the third day of deer season) 1978 in Ithaca.

Bob worked for the Gratiot County Road Commission, Great Lakes Jr. College, Dart Container, and as a Tech Coordinator for Ithaca Public Schools, retiring in 2011.

In his younger years, Bob enjoyed playing volleyball, bowling, and playing on the Back Edge softball team. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, camping at Leisure Lake Campground, and completing the Detroit Free Press crossword puzzle every day. Bob was a member of the Alma Elks Lodge #1400. He loved to show off his 1971 GTO at car shows and gathering with his friends for morning coffee at the Country Chef in Ithaca, where they would solve the world’s problems. Most of all he will be remembered for being the best husband, father, grandfather, and brother; for his pride in his daughters’ accomplishments, for the time he enjoyed spending with his three grandsons, and for his laid-back, kind, likable, and quick-witted personality.

Bob is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ronda; his daughters, Brittany Peet of Washington D.C. and Emily Peet (Tony Macklem) of Ithaca; grandsons Jayden, Jackson, and Cameron; his mother Joyce Carpenter of Ithaca; mother-in-law Karen Kindel of Ithaca; father-in-law Ron (Donna) Kindel of Sunfield, Michigan; sisters Darlene (Mark) Kraus of Ithaca, Christina (Robert) Valleau of Grawn, Michigan; brothers Dan (Julie) Evitts of St. Louis, Doug Kimmel of Ithaca; brothers and sisters-in-law Kelli Kindel (Ray Volkema), Keelee (Jeff) Bebow, Rod (Barb) Kindel; several nieces and nephews; and many, many good friends.

He was preceded in death  by his grandparents, Adolphas and Lucille Peet, Sr. and brother David Evitts.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held 11am Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca with Pastor Doug Strait officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, May 29, 2015 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. In honor of Bob, his family requests casual dress for both the visitation and celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Gratiot County Animal Shelter or to the Robert Peet Memorial Scholarship Fund (checks made payable to Ithaca Public Schools). Bob’s family would also like to encourage everyone to sign their organ donation card.

Bob, I loved you like a big brother. I am so sorry we hadn't spoken recently, which is rather odd because I think of you alot. Our time together at Dart made us great friends, as did our similar senses of humor. I will still be talking to you so do not complain. You are truly one of the best friends and men that I have had the privilege of knowing. Your wife and family meant the world to you and it showed . I will miss your laugh and that smile my friend. May God be with you. I love you my friend... always!!!

I am sorry for the loss of your dear Bob. May you find comfort in drawing close to God in prayer. He is a comforter to all who mourn. He will listen to your prayers and grant you peace. You can look forward to his promise of a brighter future when our loved ones awake from their restful sleep to enjoy life in paradise- never having to say goodbye to us again. Psalm 37:11,29; Matthew 5:5; John 11:11,21-26; Revelation 21:3,4- All the best wishes for your family at this time.
