Larry S. Fisher

6/14/1952-04/08/2023

A devoted, caring and loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend, Larry Sherman Fisher, 70, passed away at his home in Cadillac on April 8, 2023.

He loved his family unconditionally and would do anything to make their lives fuller and easier.  If he saw something that needed fixing, he would collect his tools to fix it on his next visit.  His grandkids were his world and he would literally light up when they were around.  It was common for them to pile on top of Pa in order to read them book after book.  He loved going to their games and was the principle fan, encouraging them and inserting his familiar laugh during the common antics of young ones learning the game.

Larry was a US Navy Veteran serving 2 years active duty and 2 years active reserve.  It was not uncommon for him to approach a perfect stranger wearing a veteran hat to thank them for their service and striking up a conversation.  In that way he was much like his dad.  He loved his time in the Navy, stationed in Holy Locks Scotland and was never at a loss for stories about his experience.

Camping with family was his love and he looked forward to trips up north on the shores of Lake Superior finding all the agates he could carry.  He would choose each rock for its particular color and shape keeping in mind how he was going to incorporate them into his art form.  He did art shows around Michigan with his wife Chris selling stone lamps, boxes, and jewelry.  He also loved going to second hand stores finding cool boxes,  antique knives and memorabilia and he could never go anywhere without finding a new hatchet.

Traveling was also a love of his, traveling around the United States with Chris visiting every national monument he could find.  Going out of the way to view some of the gorgeous sites he’d seen in travel magazines, never disappointed.  Sharing those moments with Chris brought him so much joy.

Golfing with Kenny, his best friend Bruce, John-David and the grand kids were also highlights in his life.  Playing on courses from Scotland, Maryland, and South Carolina to local clubs brought him joy.

Larry found humor in just about every facet of his life.  He would laugh at his own jokes and his infectious laugh would naturally bring everyone in to enjoy the moment.  We will miss that love of life he carried with him every day.

His children, Kenny and Sarah were lights of his life.  He was so proud of them and how they have built their lives and families.  Ashley and John-David were the perfect choices for them and he loved them as if they were his own children.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Kenneth and Phyllis Fisher of Ithaca.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Chris, daughter Lori, daughter Sarah (John-David) of Traverse City, adopted daughter Alyssa (Jason), son Kenny (Ashley) of Portage, and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Tony Pasquino officiating.

Condolences may be left for the family online at www.bardenfuneralhome.com.

Your description absolutely matches the man I met when you came to Oregon. You both seemed so content traveling and ready for what came next. I can only imagine the empty place his passing has left. Peace to you Dear Chris . I'm so glad the two of you had each other and built a beautiful life together.
