David Chaffin
David Jonathan Chaffin, age 85, went home to heaven on Sunday, June 26.
David was born in Ann Arbor on March 23, 1937, the son of Scota and Mable (Ringle) Chaffin. He was the youngest of 9 children.
David is survived by his children and their spouses: Paul (Judy) Chaffin, Becky (Alexander) Assman, Jon (Trish) Chaffin, and Jim (Amy) Chaffin; 9 grandchildren, Timothy, Orrie, Josh, Aaron, Jaimie, Zane, Zoe, Sally, and Angie; 14 great grandchildren; and 6 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Arlene Chaffin, his parents, elder siblings and their spouses, Raymond Chaffin, Milan and Ruth Chaffin, Reuben Chaffin, Darlene and Waldo Drummond, Arleta and Richard Ringle, Florence and Harry Dove, Ada and Carmen Murphy, and Thelma Chaffin.
David started traveling as an evangelist and singing at the young age of 16. It was during one of these meetings that he looked out in the crowd and noticed June Witmer and fell in love. On June 18, 1958 they were married, and together they started ministering in music, pastoring, and traveling with their children.
David preached, sang with his wife, and looked forward to going to heaven all of his life. His goal in life was to live for the Lord, minister, and go to heaven. He has been known to say, “I am not afraid to die; it will be a great and glorious day.”
He loved the Serenity Prayer.
God grant me the serenity to accept
the things I cannot change
Courage to change the things I can
And Wisdom to know the difference
