Garold Ray Baker
Garold Ray Baker, age 92, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw with his family by his side. Garold was born in North Star, Michigan on July 24, 1929, the son of Ray and Beatrice Baker and grew up in Ithaca, Michigan where he graduated from Ithaca High School. He served in the National Guard. He had many occupations throughout his life. He was a mechanic, a carpenter, and he was a licensed small aircraft pilot. He worked in sales and he was a Saginaw County Sheriff deputy and chief of police for Brady-Oakley. Bar far his favorite passion was being a firefighter, both in Ithaca and Chesaning. He always prided himself in being first on scene and accessing the fire. He served as assistant fire chief for Chesaning and he trained many firefighters. He was an avid deer hunter and never came home empty-handed. He was on the ski patrol at Snow Snake Mountain. He was also a boater and enjoyed waterskiing and he was usually in the water before the ice was gone from the lake.
Garold is survived by his ex-wife Arlene Baker of Lansing; his two daughters Beverly (Ted) Sadilek of Lansing and Rosanne (Mike) Thiel of Chesaning; his grandchildren Ed, Michael, and Jeremy Sadilek, Jason and Ryan Thiel, Megan Ehlers; and his 12 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters Amelia and Virginia, his son Garry, and a granddaughter Toni.
Cremation was arranged by the Barden Funeral Home of Ithaca. Memorial donations in memorial of Garold can be made to the Chesaning Fire Department.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 16070 W. Brady Rd., Oakley, Michigan on January 7, 2022 at 11am.
