Sally Ann Nester

Sally Ann (Burk) Nester, 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (GiGi) moved peacefully into the arms of the Lord on December 6, 2022, while under hospice care at The Laurels of Carson City.

Sally was born September 11, 1932, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Arthur G. Burk and Violet E. (Boldt) Burk. She graduated from Wausau HS in 1950, and then attended secretarial business school in Milwaukee.  Upon graduation, she met her husband, Tom, who was in the Air Force and stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base. Tom and Sally were married on September 20, 1952, in Wausau, Wisconsin.  The Air Force moved them to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. While stationed there, son Dale was born in 1953. Upon completion of Tom’s service, the family moved to Michigan, where Sally focused on raising their family.  Daughter Jill followed in 1956, and son Ronald in 1958. They lived in Warren from 1960 until they retired to Canadian Lakes in 1997.  Sally took up golf, learned to clog, joined a book club and gardening club, joined the Treasure Seekers, and hosted friends in a rotating card club. Tom and Sally moved into a neighboring duplex next to  Dale/Marion in 2016-present to be closer to family.
Sally was many things to many people. She was feisty and honest in her opinions. She was always dressed “to the nines” with lots of sparkles. She loved to tell jokes, shop, craft annual Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren, and make jewelry for friends and family.  She was especially talented at writing cards of support and original poems for those who were hurting.  Sally was nicknamed “Dr. Nester” by many of her neighbors as she could be relied on to dispense old-school remedies for their sick children.
Sally faced her fair share of medical setbacks over the years which she fought valiantly. She was ready to move on and did so peacefully as she and her family had prayed for.  Sally is now dancing in heaven with her beloved brothers, family member and friends.
As the youngest in her family, she was preceded in death by brothers Dale, Bob, and Jack. She is survived by her husband Tom (married 70 years), son Dale Nester (Marion) of Ithaca, MI, daughter Jill Barrett of Commerce Township, MI, and son Ronald Nester (Jill) of Berkley, MI. Sally had six grandchildren (Scott, Kyle, Brittany, Hazen, Russell, and Hannah) and nine great-grandchildren.  There are also many nieces and nephews in Michigan and Wisconsin that will miss their Aunt Sally.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony and Luncheon will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca (218 E. Neward St.) beginning with a period of Reminiscing/Fellowship at 11:30 AM, a short Memorial Service at 12:30 PM, followed by a luncheon at 1:00 PM.  Donations, in Sally’s name, can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca’s Memorial Fund (PO Box 48, Ithaca, 48847) or any charity of your choosing.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Barden Funeral Home, Ithaca.  To view Sally’s obituary online or leave a note of condolence for the family, please visit www.bardenfuneralhome.com.
