Frances Eileen Young

Frances Eileen Young, age 79, of Ithaca, died at her home on Friday, August 19, 2011.

She was born on September 21, 1931 in Alma, the daughter of Ira and Vera (Herron) Dickerson.  She married William Richard Young on August 3, 1952 in Ithaca.  She taught swimming for the Red Cross at Reed's Gravel Pit for many years.  She enjoyed arts and crafts and doing oil paintings.  She loved horses as a child.  She enjoyed traveling, especially going into the UP.  She also volunteered at school through the years, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Frances is survived by her husband, William; one son Bruce (Bozena) Young of Ithaca; her grandchildren:  Jacob and Farrah Gladding of Alma, Nacomie (Chad) Wallman of Vestaburg, and Georgina (Chris) Van Horn of Weidman; and 8 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two children, Vicky Lynn Young and Jerry Lee Young.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 23, 2011,  at 3:30 PM at the United Brethren Church in Ashley, with Pastor Jerry Drummond officiating.  Interment will follow in the Ithaca Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-3:30 PM at the church prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Ithaca Senior Activity Building. 

The family is being served by Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca.

Eugene “Gene” W. Clements

Eugene “Gene” W. Clements, 67, of Orleans passed away on May 7, 2011 in Grand Rapids.  Gene was born in Bay City on September 15, 1943 to David and Clara (Hubbard) Clement Sr.  On July 18, 1987, he married Peggy Hopkins in Sheridan. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Stanton American Legion where he served as a past Sergeant at Arms and Historian.  He lived in the Stanton and Orleans area for many years. 

Gene is survived by his siblings; David and Sue Clements Jr. of Bay City, William and Kay Clements of Crystal, James and June Clements of Lansing, Mary and Al Schwerin of Bentley, Bonnie and Clair Myers of Edmore, and Jacqueline McGill of Stanton; many nieces and nephews, cousins,  and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, his parents, and his sister Tammy Schnicke.

Memorial services will be held at the Barden Funeral Home, Stanton, on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Oscar Montez officiating and American Legion Post #452 in Stanton providing an honor guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Emma L. Wilson

Emma L. Wilson, 88, of Crystal passed away in Belding on January 10, 2011.

Emma was born in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio on September 14, 1922 to William and Mary Ellen (Waller) Wilson.  She was a telephone operator, a clerk at Burris’ Grocery Store, a butcher at Lynn’s Grocery store, and cared for many people at her sister’s adult foster care homes.  She attended the Crystal Congregational Church for many years.  Emma enjoyed sewing, embroidering, going for walks, and was very involved in the activities of her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  She especially enjoyed watching their sports and music programs.

Emma is survived by her sister and brother, Helen Siburt of Sumner and Jim and Marie Wilson of Belding; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Bertha Atwood, and brothers William "Bud" Wilson, Donovan Wilson, John Wilson, Harold Wilson, Warren Wilson, George Wilson, and Douglas Wilson.

A celebration of Emma’s life and Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Barden Funeral Home, Stanton.  Pastor Herbert Bergsma will officiate.  Graveside services will be held at a later date. For those desiring to do so, Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Elsie Jean Diehl

Elsie Jean Diehl, age 77, of Ithaca, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at her residence with her family surrounding her.

She was born on April 6, 1934 to Edgar T. and Elsie Marie (Crosten) Hardin in Cumberland, MD. She was a bookkeeper and an accountant in Gratiot County and Plano, Texas. She loved cooking and sewing. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her first love and husband of 60 years, James R. Diehl of Ithaca; 4 daughters, Teresa (Ike) Wheeler of Ithaca, Debra Crable of Lewisburg, TN, Gale (Kurt) Hutfilz of Lewisburg, TN, and Regina Mast of Ithaca; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Harry Hardin of Alexandria, VA and Charles Hardin of Zephyrhills, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Edgar Hardin; and 2 sisters, Mary Francis Getz and Doris Mae Norris.

A private memorial service was held Saturday, July 23, 2011 in Ithaca with Rev. James Conn officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Caring. The family was served by Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca.

Eleanora Honora Harris

Eleanora Honora Harris passed away November 9th, 2011 with her family by her side. Ellie was born in Putnam County, Indiana on Jun 26th, 1918. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and in her younger days loved to cook.

Ellie is survived by her only daughter Barbara VanWye of Alma; grandchildren Michale (Debra) Miller of Riverdale, Diana (Eric) Sanger of Merrill, Andrea Sternhagen of Riverdale, Darcia (Shannon) Daley of Vestaburg; and many great grandchildren.

Ellie was preceded in death by her husband Frank Harris, grandson David Miller, granddaughter Eleanora Ann Miller, and grandson John Sternhagen.

Graveside services and interment will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Elm Hall Cemetery.
