Phyllis Jean Teed Munro VanNostrand

Phyllis J. VanNostrand, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010, at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma, at the age of 72 years young, surrounded by her loving family.

Phyllis was born in Stanton on February 14, 1938, to the late L. J. and Christina (Oyler) Teed. She married Edward “Bud” Munro and together they had six children. She then married Howard VanNostrand and was blessed with six step-children.
Phyllis was a factory worker, working at D&S Auto Trim in Alma for 18 years as well as Alpha Plastics in St. Louis for 2 years. She loved doing crafts with her late sister, Ann Walker. She very much enjoyed family get togethers.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Kenny (Dorthann) Teed of Pompeii, David (Tammy) Munro of Elwell, Sharon Shively of Alma, and Christina Munro of Ithaca; step-children, Diana, Howard, Ruby, Donna, Douglas, and Melissa; her brothers, David (Susan) Teed of Alma and Lavern (Diana) Teed of Nebraska; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her sons, Robert and Michael Munro; her parents; her sister, Ann Walker; and her brother, Richard Teed.

Phyllis has been cremated and she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Edward Munro and her sons, Robert and Michael, at Kelly Cemetery in Oil City, Michigan. A memorial dinner will be held at the Wesleyan Church Hall at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 9. “Don’t cry for me, Smile for me.”

The family is being served by the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca.

Perry Thomas Moore

Perry Thomas Moore, age 54, passed away suddenly at his home on march 3, 2010.

Perry was born April 14, 1955 in Carson City Hospital, the son of Perry Junior and Lavina Evelyn (Karp) Moore. In 1982 Perry met Mary Ann Farr, who he spent the rest of his life with. Perry enjoyed fixing things, and worked on everything from cars to electronics. he took every opportunity to help friends and family, and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his sons and grandchildren. He loved Michigan football, watching westerns, and he loved his dogs.

Perry is survived by Mary Ann Farr; three sons, Steven (Kristina) Moore, Anthony (April) Farr, and Michael Moore; a granddaughter, Darian Christine Moore; a grandson, Zakkary Joseph Moore; his brothers and sisters, Arlene (Cleo) Flegel of Ithaca, Richard (Clare) Olson of Kalkaska, Eva Cecil of North Star, Faith (Andrew) Mikulka of Pompeii, Arthur David Moore of Ithaca; and several nieces and nephews.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde Dale Moore and Virgil William Olson; and his first wife, Christine (Thompson) Moore.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Rev. Clare Huyck officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Paul D. Simcox

Paul D. Simcox, age 96, of Ithaca, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Laurels of Carson City.

Paul was born on February 9, 1914, the son of Alonzo and Zillah (Dressback) Simcox. He married Ellie Fortney on April 30, 1934. They were married for 74 years. She preceded him in death in 2008.

He farmed until 1951 when he started working at GM for 27 years. After retiring from GM, he enjoyed selling at flea markets. He also enjoyed watching University of Michigan football and basketball.

He is survived by his two sons, Dale of Ithaca and Stuart of Tallmadge, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Gene; three brothers Bill, Karl and Oran; and sister Ruth Douglas.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 1 PM at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Ron Simcox officiating. Burial will be in the Ithaca Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM.

Paul L. Sabin

Paul L. Sabin, age 97, of Sheridan, died Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Carson City Hospital after a short illness.

Paul was born August 8, 1913, in Elm Hall, the son of Pearl and Martha (Long) Sabin. He married his beloved wife of 68 1/2 years, Hilma J. Morrow, in Alma, on October 5, 1940. She preceded him in death in 2009.

Paul worked as a farmer, truck driver for the Vestaburg Marketing Association, and for the Montcalm County Road Commission, and later worked for and retired from the Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing in 1976.

He loved to hunt, fish, and grow a garden which he shared with many.

He is survived by two sons, Paul M. (Lana) Sabin of Vicksburg, Michigan and Mark (Claudette) Sabin of Sheridan; his daughter, Pauline (Jim) Hansen of East Lansing; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In honoring Paul’s wishes, he has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010, at the Barden Funeral Home in Stanton, with Rev. Dale Murray officiating.

For those desiring to do so, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Sheridan Community Hospital Patient Care Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Kenneth J. Stauffer

Kenneth J. Stauffer, 97 of Stanton, passed away October 29, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.

Ken was born in Holland, MI on April 25, 1913 to Floyd and Jennie (Harrington) Stauffer. On February 12, 1932 he married Ethel Denman in Stanton. They owned a farm in Sheridan where Ken raised, bred, and trained, horses for harness racing. His family and horses were the two most important loves of his life.

Ken is survived by his children, Lois Gray of Lansing, Edward and Virginia Stauffer of Alden, MI, and Robert and Gerri Stauffer of Las Vegas; 6 grandchildren; and several great and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, two sons, Kenneth Jr. and Donald Stauffer; a grandson, Gregory Stauffer; and a brother, Donald Stauffer.

Funeral services for Ken will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Barden Funeral Home, Stanton. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Kenneth Harger of the Shiloh Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. For those desiring to do so, memorial contributions may be made to the Great Lakes Hospice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
