Sandra Arlene (Littell) Flegel
Sandra Arlene (Littell) Flegel, passed away very peacefully on September 14th, 2018 at Spectrum Health/Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. She was born February 13th 1939 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. to Zeltus B. “Jim”and Louise M. Littell. Her family moved to Ithaca when she was 4, where she lived her entire life. She graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1956, where she developed many life-long friends.
Sandra married Richard Flegel in 1958 and had two sons, Terry and Craig. In addition to being a busy farmer’s wife and mother, she also found time to be involved with many activities including Cub Scouts, room mother, Extension Club (4H fair), Garden Club, and Junior Simmentals. She always loved sports, and bowled for most of her life. The stories from the team tripsto the State Bowling tournaments have become “legend”. Later in life, she took up and enjoyed the game of golf. She and dear friend Patty Reeves could really tear up the course together. After the unexpected loss of her husband in 1995, Sandra remained involved with the Michigan Simmental Association as acting secretary and treasurer.
Her working years included time at Consumers Power in Almaprior to starting her family. She returned to work in 1975 at the Friend of the Court in Ithaca, where she worked for well over 30 years. In retirement, Sandra traveled quite a bit, including trips to Brazil, Mexico, Arizona, Las Vegas, Maine, and Florida. Her favorite reason for travel was to spend time with her grandkids, both in Grand Rapids, and Bangor, Maine.
Sandra was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, and several brothers and sisters-in-laws. She leaves behind two sons; Terry (Patty) of Bangor, Maine, and Craig (Cara) of Grand Rapids; and four grandchildren: Brandon and Gabriel (Terry),and Mathew and Jenna (Craig); brother Ronald of Ithaca (Jeff and Julie), brothers and sisters in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Sandra has lived at the Sunrise Retirement Community in Cascade for the past few years. We would like to thank the entire Sunrise team for the love and care they provided for Sandra, and especially Cassie Gordon. We would like to thank all the family and friends who have visited, sent cards, messages, thoughts and prayers to Sandra over the past 3 years.
