William Brasure Taylor
William Brasure Taylor, age 94 of Alma passed away on July 2, 2017. He was born on January 17, 1923, son of Frank Wilmore Taylor and Helen Brasure Taylor of Ridgley, Maryland.
Bill was attending the University of Maryland when he was drafted to serve in the Army during WWII and where he returned after his discharge, to complete his degree in Dairy Husbandry. After graduation he took a job with the Pet Milk Company as a dairy field man in Michigan where he met and married Rose Marie Jorgensen with whom he had two daughters, Susan and Linda.
He and Marie owned a 120 acre farm in the Edmore-Blanchard area where he raised beef cattle and continued to work as a dairy field man for Remus Creamery until taking a job as a farm credit loan officer with Production Credit Association in Alma.
Bill was active in the communities in which he lived, serving on the Blanchard and Montabella school boards for 12 years, and as a Rotarian, Chamber of Commerce member and 4H Youth Fair board member in Alma. After retirement he and Marie moved to their cottage at Higgins Lake where they lived for 15 years, spending winters in Orange Beach Alabama, before moving to Ithaca to be close to family. He was a lifelong Mason and regularly visited acquaintances residing at Masonic Pathways before becoming a resident in 2009 until his death. He enjoyed sailing on Higgins Lake, traveling and corresponding with family and friends. In his later years he was a prolific letter writer.
Surviving is his wife, Rose Marie, daughters, Susan Taylor (Waino Pihl) of Ithaca, Linda Taylor of Lansing, Grandchildren Anne Pouch (Aaron) of Dewitt, Hugh MacDowell of Farmington Hills, Kari and Dane Pihl of Ithaca and Great Granddaughter Elizabeth Larson.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at the Masonic Pathways’ Doig Chapel on July 15th at 10 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gratiot County Commission on Aging
