Jeffery Verne Goostrey

Jeff was born June 23, 1949 at Smith Place in Alma MI, the second son of Marjorie Jean (Parling) and Richard B. Goostrey.

Jeff was part of a large, loving family who will miss him dearly, brothers Don and Stephen (Arlene) Goostrey, sisters Nancy (John) Allen, Susan Goostrey (Tim Hutchinson) and Lisa Goostrey.  Jeff was loved by his many nieces and nephews: Morgan and Rich, Shawn and Rachel, Jordan, Jillian and Luke, Jeffrey and Ollivia, Sarah, Michael, Matthew and Brandi, Jenna and Josh, Lindsay and Ben, Corey, Haley and Adam, and Patrick and Katherine.  He was also loved by his adoring great-nieces and nephews, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Richard B. Goostrey, grandparents Verne and Cordie Parling and Morton and Dorothy Goostrey.

Jeff Graduated from Ithaca High School, Alma College and McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL.    

Jeff served as Vice-President of RBG, Inc. for 11 years. He loved the Ithaca Community, giving generously of his time over the years to the Ithaca Rotary Club, Gratiot Agriculture Society Fair, and most recently the Ithaca High School Turf Committee.  

Jeff was a quiet, gentle soul. He loved cars, golf, long walks, IHS Football, the Detroit Tigers, and watching MSU Men’s Basketball, and the Rosary High School Girls Basketball team of CA.  

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the Ithaca Presbyterian Church.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, and a luncheon will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jeff’s name may be made to Alma College, the Ithaca Community Food Pantry, and the IHS Turf Committee.

Jeff and were in the same class and went 13 years together, culminating in serving on the Growler staff at the same time. We called him Flash as he was staff photographer. He will be sorely missed, but leaves a wealth of memories for all who knew him as a kind and gentle soul.
