Ednarae Smith Johnson Baker
Ednarae Smith Johnson Baker, age 93, passed away April 16, 2016 at Masonic Pathways in Alma.
Eddie, as she preferred to be called, was born November 18, 1922 to H. Raymon and Edna May (Mapes) Smith in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Eddie married Gale Johnson in 1942 and had two daughters. They were longtime residents of Elwell. Gale preceded Eddie in death in 1970. In 1975, she married Rex Baker. Rex and Eddie lived in Sumner, until at the age of 75 and 80, they moved to Germfask in the UP. They returned 10 years later and resided at Masonic Pathways in Alma. Rex preceded Eddie in death in 2013.
Eddie worked at several restaurants in Alma and retired from Alma College. She was a life long member of the Lincoln Road Methodist Church and an Eastern Star. She belonged to the United Methodists and was a Sunday School teacher. She was involved in several activities at the Masonic Pathways, including the choir and tutoring children in reading. Eddie loved the UP and traveling to different states to visit family. She was also a big fan of the Detroit Tigers.
Eddie was a loving and happy person with a great sense of humor. She will be missed but is now with our Lord.
Eddie is survived by her daughters Gaila Rae of Hilton Head, SC, Dorothy Johnson Cordell of El Granda, CA, Nadine Jerome of Turk Lake, Margret Peacock of Sumner, and Mary Hall of Boyne City. She is also survived by several grand and great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Eddie will be 11am Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Masonic Pathways Doig Chapel. Visitation will start at 10am Thursday with an Eastern Star service at 10:45am in the Doig Chapel. Interment will be at Pritchard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation.
