Charles Boland Gray

Charles Boland Gray, age 83, of Wheeler, died at his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 after a short battle with lung cancer, with family by his side.

Charles was born on July 17, 1930, in Kimball, WV, the son of Howard Lee and Allie Marie (Board) Gray. He married Mary Imajean Scalf on July 27, 1951 at the Naval Air Station in Oceana, VA.  After 52 years of marriage Mary passed on June 30, 2003.  Charles retired from the Navy after 22 years of service with a rank of Chief Warrant Officer-2. From there he went on to work for the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital retiring after 27 years. He is a member of the USS Kitty Hawk Veterans Assoc., and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He enjoyed putting on magic shows, researching his family history, and discussing politics.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Howard Lee Gray, sister; Kathryn Waller, and one great grandson Zachary Gordon Nahsohn.

Charles is survived by his five daughters; Angela Gray-Couture of Lemon Grove, CA, Connie Gray of Temecula, CA, Kathy (Lee) Aland of Chula Vista, CA, Elizabeth (Roger) Raycraft of Wheeler, MI, and Jennifer (Rashid) Al-Turkistani of McKinney, TX. He is also survived by his 23 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca on Friday, December 6th, from 5-7 pm.  San Diego services will be Friday, December 13th at the LDS Stake Center 8472 Blossom Lane, Lemon Grove, Ca 91945.  A viewing will take place at the Stake Center from 12-1 pm, funeral service will be from 1-2pm with graveside service immediately following at Greenwood Mortuary 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA.

My sincere condolences. I remember him fondly while working with him in the Arabian Stake. He was thoughtful, humble, competent and a pleasure to be around. May God bless all his family with peace.

Judy and I send our deepest heart felt sympathy. Charles and I served together on the USS KittyHawk, 1965/ 66 in the South China Sea. We connected up again in Chapin, South Carolina in 2006, where Howard lived before his passing..
So very sorry to learn of your Dad's passing. He was a good customer at our magic shop and a real gentleman. I loved the stories he told us about his adventures in Saudi Arabia. May God bless husband soul. Fond regards.
