We are sorry to announce the passing of John Carl Stoll, 86, of Ashley, Michigan. John was surrounded by his loving family on April 29, 2025. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on June 14, 2025 at 11am at the Better Life ZCBJ Lodge, Bannister, Michigan. A private burial will take place later at Collier Cemetery, Washington Township.
John was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 30, 1938, the son of Romine Carl Stoll and Violet (Peacock) Stoll. John graduated from McKenzie High School in Detroit with the Class of 1956. After high school, John attended Michigan State University, Lansing, Michigan where he played drums in the marching band. John furthered his education at Lawrence Technical Institute and Wayne State University.
John Joined the Michigan National Guard and served for 6 years. John worked as a private consultant in Germany where he helped to design a major computer operation. On his return to Michigan, he worked at Redman Motors in Owosso, Michigan, and Evenrude Boat Motors in Chicago. He went to work for the State of Michigan as a Computer Operations Manager for 10 years. John worked as a private consultant for several small businesses. His working career ended as a Computer Instructor at Lansing Community College. John had a gift of talking and as a part time professor he now had all the audience he needed.
While working at the State of Michigan, John met the love of his life, Sally Ann Malek. They have enjoyed 54 years of marriage. One of the wonderful happenings in John’s life is when his son John Carl Stoll, Jr. (JC) was born on December 23, 1975.
Building his own home was a dream he had and he accomplished the undertaking with much satisfaction on their farm near Ashley.
John was an assistant Boy Scout Leader, and he enjoyed watching JC earn his Eagle Scout rank. This was a major highlight in his life. John, while teaching his grandson Nolan how to play drums, brought memories and smiles to his life.
John loved taking pictures, reading, fishing, bowling, painting acrylics, gold, and camping. John was a member of the Ashley Sportsman Club and Better Life ZCBJ Lodge in Bannister.
Over the years, John and Sally took a couple trips to Europe, several cruises, and many outings with family and friends.
Surviving is his loving wife, Sally of 54 years, his son John Carl Stoll, Jr. (JC) and wife Amy, grandson Nolan and granddaughter Haley Rueckert. Other survivors are brother Tom (Joyce) Stoll, sisters-in-law Ruth Malek, Judy Cramer, Kendra Malek, and special cousin Margaret Dawson. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and special friends Alexander and Faye Buchman.
John was preceded in death by parents Romine Carl and Violet Stoll, stepmother Virginia Stoll, in laws Charles and Anna Malek, brothers-in-law Jerry, Joe, Bob, Charles III, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Malek.
Memorials may be made to Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor of St. Johns, Better Life ZCBJ Lodge, Bannister, MI, and Gratiot Commission on Aging in Ithaca.
John will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his spirit and sense of humor will live on in our hearts.
