Victor L. Zimmerman

July 27, 1953 – July 10, 2020

Victor passed away after battling lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Marian Zimmerman, older brothers, Donald & George Zimmerman, older sisters, Bessie Saylor & Darlene Wagner, and his wife Teresa & unborn son. He is survived by his eldest brother, Harold (Joanne) Zimmerman & sister, Mary (Zip & Brenda) Zimmerman. We would like to thank his very special & caring friends, Kim and Bill Foster for their love & care of Victor over the past few years. Cremation has taken place & a private, family memorial will take place at a later date,

Hal Alpheus Williams

Hal Alpheus Williams; 88; of Ithaca; passed away at Sparrow Hospital  in Lansing on Friday, July 10, 2020.

He was born March 8, 1932 in Detroit, MI, to Harry and Anna (Valla) Williams. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, MI and from Michigan Tech in Houghton, MI. While in college he met Betty Laine of Hancock, MI, and they were married on December, 20, 1958. Hal served in the U.S. Army as a corpsman from 1954-1956, which is where he found a love of practicing medicine. Hal graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1961. Hal and Betty moved to Ithaca in 1962 where Hal joined the staff at Carson City Hospital and began practicing at Ithaca Clinic, where he practiced for over 40 years, often treating multiple generations of Ithaca families. He was a true small town doctor. Over his years in medicine, he had numerous affiliations, leadership positions, and awards, including being Chief of Staff at Carson City Hospital for ten years and being selected as the Osteopathic General Practitioners of Michigan Physician of the Year. One of Hal’s best qualities was his generous spirit, always remembering people’s names and taking a genuine interest in everyone he met. Hal was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, golfing at the Ithaca County Club, and skiing in previous years. He loved taking care of his yard and flowers and never met a sweet dessert or treat he didn’t like. 

Hal is survived by his son, Tony (Jackie) Williams; his daughter, Beth (Kurt) Creamer; and his grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, and Jack Creamer, and Brandon and Ethan Nelson. He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia McKenzie of Livonia, MI, and his brother Paul (Nancy) Williams of Kirksville, MO. Also surviving Hal are numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a special friend, Shirley.  Hal was preceded in death by his wife Betty. 

A Funeral Service will be held at Ithaca Cemetery at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, with Rev. Christina Jenson officiating.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7, Monday, July 13, at Barden’s Funeral Home in Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization of your choice in his memory. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.bardenfuneralhome.com.

James Joseph “Joe” Shuttleworth

Joe Shuttleworth, age 68, of Ithaca, died Monday, July 6, 2020, at Mid Michigan Gratiot Hospital in Alma.

Joe was born June 27, 1952 in Alma, the son of Fredrick James and Jean Louise (Fisher) Shuttleworth.  He graduated from Ithaca High School in 1971.  He farmed north of Ithaca for many years.

Joe loved his dogs, and hunted and fished through his early years.  He enjoyed watching television, and especially loved watching the Detroit Pistons play.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Jon) Adams; his granddaughters, Mariah Fabela, Paislee Adams, and Harper Adams; his brother, Marty (Lora) Shuttleworth of Edwardsburg, MI; and four nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Jean Shuttleworth, and his brother, Mark Shuttleworth.

Graveside services for Joe will be 11am Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Terry Lee Sanders "Snarf"

December 11, 1948 - July 1, 2020

Terry Lee Sanders, formerly of Ithaca, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veteran's where he had resided for the past seven years. 

Terry was born December 11, 1948 at the R.B. Smith Memorial Hospital in Alma, Michigan, the oldest son of Ronald and Maxine Sanders . He attended Ithaca High School and graduated in 1967.  After high school, Terry was drafted into the Army, where he served his country during the Vietnam War. 

Snarf could always be found around a pool table or doing some type of woodworking project, even while at the VA, he enjoyed his time in the woodshop and made several bird feeders. He also was an avid rock and roll music lover and loved watching live bands.

He is survived by sisters, Bonnie Medved, Cindy Sanders and Wendy Sanders, all of Ithaca; brothers, Larry (Sheila) Sanders of Ithaca and Gary (Georgia) Sanders of Middleton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Elaine Piper and 3 brothers-in-law Robert Medved, Leslie Piper and Fred Piper.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 6, at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Chapel Gardens Cemetery in Elwell, with Pastor Dave Perry officiating.

Ronald Coe

On June 28, 2020 Ronald Coe loving husband, partner and father passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.  

Ron was born to Joseph and Vyrah Coe in Lansing Michigan.  He graduated from Alma High School and entered the National Guard where he served his country until November 1954. He married Bernadette (Haeck) in 1952.  Together they raised five daughters: Linda (Marion) Kremsreiter, Cindy (Jeff) Bosley, Debbie (Bob) Dayringer, Sandy Wold (Mark Peak) and Laura Coe (Phil Schafer).  

In 2002 he met his loving partner Diane Fell who brought her sons Richard, Scott, Justin and granddaughter Leah to the family.  

Ron was the proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren: Christy, Jeremy, Carie, Stacy, Stephanie, Kevin, Shelly, Kurt, Sarah, Adam, Erica, Stephen, Tasha, Brent and Erin.  29 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  

He is survived by brothers and sisters Bert Coe, Ken Coe, Sharon (George) Kirkby and Sherry (John) Hurt and many nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bernadette. Siblings Jim, Mary Catherine, Bill, Arden and Ralph. Granddaughter Tonya.  

Ron loved the Ithaca Yellow Jackets.  It was a rare occasion that he was not in the bleachers cheering them on.  Some times with a little too much passion for the referees to ignore. He also loved his Detroit Tigers almost as much as his family.  He enjoyed visiting friends and family, woodworking, cars and road trips anywhere.

A private service to honor his life was held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Ithaca Cemetery.  He was buried alongside his wife, Bernadette.  The family plans to host a memorial service for family and friends at a later date.

Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to the Ithaca Senior Center or Heartland Hospice.

Heart felt thank you is extended to Heartland Hospice staff for their wonderful and compassionate care of Ron and his family.
