George Edward "Eddie/Eddie Bob" Flora

A true southern “good ‘ol boy,” passed away Friday April 5 2019 at his home in Ithaca, Michigan. He was 70 years old, born on September 6, 1948 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Eddie was born to Paul and Lorraine (Littleton) Flora, from Poplar Plains, Kentucky. He attended school in Flemingsburg. He married the love of his life of 50 years, Linda Sue Hyer in Flemingsburg on August 24, 1968. They were high school sweethearts who would enjoy many years of traveling, good times dancing, and spending time with family and friends. They were the life of the party—where there was one, there was always the other.

They have two daughters, Mechelle (Brad) Shaw, Heather (Jamey) Conn, and four grandsons, Bryan, Brayden, Dallas, and Jackson, who were their world, all of Ithaca. Eddie is also survived by his nephew Randy (Dana) Kerns, and nieces Ginger Selby, and Donna Burke, all of Kentucky. Eddie always enjoyed the numerous visits his special niece Donna made to Michigan. Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill Ware, and sisters Paulette Kerns and Sue Flora.

He started his long business career at U.S. Shoe in Flemingsburg, Kentucky after high school. In 1977, as hard as it was to leave their hometown, he proudly moved Linda and his girls to Ithaca, Michigan to continue his career with International Shoe Corporation. He worked there for 34 years and did contract work with Wolverine World Wide.

He was a true southern boy... the real meaning of the phrase; “would give you the shirt off his back”. He would lend a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, and always had a funny remark to make you laugh. He had a heart of gold. He was always known for his love of music, especially Elvis Presley. He could tell you anything you wanted to know about Elvis, and even named his dog Elvis and another King. Eddie could be mistaken for Elvis with his gold glasses and loved his Elvis P.J.’s that his kids got him from Nashville. He even walked into the room wearing them while an Elvis song was playing.

Eddie always had a nickname for everyone, including the dogs. It could be a reference to their name, or simply based on his impression of you. He called his oldest grandson Bryan “BB”, Brayden “B Ray”, Dallas “DC”, Jackson “JC or Jack”, his wife “Linda Sue”, and his daughters “Me-chelle My Bell” and “Heather Feather”. The list could go on and on with the nicknames for all of his friends and family.

Eddie and Linda felt so blessed to have friends here that always made them feel like family. The most important thing to Eddie was his girls; Linda, Mechelle, and Heather. They will always be the “Flora 4”.

A celebration of his life was held Monday April 8, 2019, at Barden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, with Eddie’s love of animals, donations can be made to Gratiot Animal Shelter. Condolences may be left for the family online at:
