Denise A. Johnson

Denise A. Johnson, age 64, of Ithaca, passed away at Masonic Pathways in Alma on September 28, 2017, with her family at her side, after a long battle with diabetes and COPD.  

Denise was born in Alma on January 16, 1953, the daughter of Earl and Beverly (Graham) Fortney.  She married her high school sweetheart, Scott D. Johnson, on November 25, 1972.  She enjoyed being on the stage with Gratiot County Players, and on camping trips, many a summer night was wasted sitting around the campfire singing to, and with, her family.

Denise is survived by her husband of 44 years, Scott; her children, Steven (Beth) Johnson of Ithaca, Brendon Johnson of Jackson, and Melissa (Miguel) Rodriguez of Ithaca; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her sister, Cyndi (Jerry) Roslund of Interlochen; and her brother, Kevin Fortney of Belding.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Lynn Johnson; and her parents, Earl and Beverly Fortney.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 2, at the Ithaca Church of God, with Pastor Tom Whitesel officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Friday, 4-7 p.m. Saturday, and 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca.  Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
