1931 - 2017

Phyllis JoAnn Safranski, of Midland, died Sunday, March 12th, 2017 at Schnepp Health Care Center in St. Louis, Michigan.  She was 85 years old.  JoAnn was born on June 1, 1931 in St. Louis, Michigan, the daughter of Harry & Anna (Clegg) Franks.  She graduated from St. Louis high school in 1949, and graduated from Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in 1952

JoAnn was a dedicated nurse who began her career at Alma Hospital for 2 years, prior to working as a pediatric nurse at Mid-Michigan Medical Center, Midland for 25 years, ending her career as Manager of Maternity.  After retirement, she volunteered making flower arrangements at the hospital’s gift shop.

JoAnn enjoyed cooking and sewing and teaching these skills to her grandchildren.  She was an enthusiastic Cub Scout den mother and a 4H leader. JoAnn also enjoyed spending time at Otsego Lake fishing, and socializing with her friends & family.

JoAnn is survived by Sister Virginia (Donald) Plaxton of St. Johns, Michigan, sons Michael Fox (Linda) from Troy,  Michigan, James Fox of Hawthorne, California, grandchildren, Andrew, Aimee, Jessica, & Jeremy.  Also leaving behind many loving step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and friends in Midland and at Otsego Lake.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her son William D. Fox, her parents, Brother Hugh Franks, Sisters Margaret McJilton, Evelyn Hrncharek, husbands, William C. Fox, Arnold R. Lietz, and John C. Safranski.

In memory of JoAnn, donations to Mid-Michigan Medical Center, Midland.

Memorial date is yet to be determined.
