Born September 9, 1940 at home in Ithaca, Michigan. Died approximately May 10, 2015 at his home. Bud was a lifelong resident of the Ithaca/Alma area. He graduated from Ithaca High School in 1958.

Bud spent his teenage working years at an auto-body shop, then his entire career with GTE in several positions. In addition to his work, he served as shop steward for the employees union for several years. He took an early retirement and enjoyed his home in the woods and his lake front property at Pretty Lake. Following in his maternal grandfather's footsteps, he built 2 homes by hand.

He had a lifelong fascination with cars and owned many, including several that he rebuilt and reupholstered. In later years, he enjoyed several generations of raccoons who gathered outside his deck door every evening. He nicknamed himself "Raccoon Guy".

He was predeceased by his parents Joseph Hawkes and Virginia Hill. He is survived by: 3 sons Michael (Kay) Hawkes of Grand Rapids, Ken (Zoe Greene) Hawkes of Lynn, MA and Steve (Bethany) Hawkes of Elwell; a sister Darla Kappus of Stafford, VA; 2 stepbrothers Robert (Mary) Hill of Grand Rapids, Gary (Amber) Hill of Ithaca, and a stepsister Carolyn (Cory) Scott of Sonoita, AZ; and 3 granddaughters Whitney and Tia Hawkes of Grand Rapids and Ava Yerian of Elwell.
